Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters. This policy explains what information Passby collects, how it's used, and what stays entirely on your device. We've written it in plain language — no legal jargon.
The short version: Passby does not sell your data. AI descriptions are generated entirely on your device. Your location is never sent to our servers.
1. Information We Collect
Passby collects only what is necessary to provide its features:
- Location data — used on-device to search for nearby places via Apple's MapKit framework. Your coordinates are never sent to Passby servers.
- Account information — if you sign in with Apple, we receive a user identifier, and optionally your name and email address (which Apple may hide). This is stored in Firebase to identify your account.
- Comments — any comments you post are stored in Firebase Firestore and are publicly visible to other users.
- Timeline / visited places — if you are signed in, places you tap are saved to your Firestore account so your history persists across devices and sessions.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect precise location history on our servers.
- We do not collect analytics, crash reports, or usage telemetry beyond what Firebase provides by default.
- We do not collect payment information (all purchases, if any, are handled by Apple).
- AI-generated descriptions are produced entirely on-device using Apple's Foundation Models framework and are never transmitted anywhere.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To show you nearby points of interest relevant to your location.
- To save and restore your timeline across sessions when you are signed in.
- To display your comments alongside place information.
- To maintain your account and display your name in the app.
4. Third-Party Services
Passby uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy practices:
- Apple MapKit — used to search for nearby places. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Apple Foundation Models — on-device AI. No data leaves your device.
- Firebase (Google) — used for authentication (Sign in with Apple) and data storage (Firestore). Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Sign in with Apple — identity authentication. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
5. Data Retention
Your account data and timeline remain in Firestore until you delete your account. Comments you post remain until you delete them individually. You may request full data deletion by contacting us at the address below.
6. Children's Privacy
Passby is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email below. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
