Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the Jamaica Patois Translator iMessage app ("the app", "we") handles your information. The app is currently in development and not yet publicly released; this policy applies to development, beta (e.g. TestFlight), and any future released versions.

The short version

We don't run our own servers and we don't collect, store, or sell your data.
Text you choose to translate is sent to Google's Gemini API to produce the translation.
Nothing you type is saved by the app — no history, no message logs.
The app cannot read your iMessage conversations. It only sees text you type or paste into it.

What the app can and cannot access

The app is an iMessage extension. By Apple's design, iMessage extensions cannot read the messages in your conversations. The only text the app ever processes is text you deliberately type or paste into the app's own input box.

Information sent to third parties

When you tap Translate (or request suggested replies), the text you entered is sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to Google's Gemini API to generate the result. This is the only network communication the app makes. Google processes that text under its own terms:

Please note: depending on the API tier in use, Google may use content submitted to the Gemini API to improve its products and services. Avoid translating sensitive personal information (passwords, financial details, health information, etc.).

What we store on your device

Only your app preferences — the translation direction and AI model you last selected. These are stored locally on your device and never leave it. The app deliberately does not save the text you translate or the results.

What we don't do

No accounts, sign-ups, or user profiles.
No analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
No collection of contacts, location, photos, or any device data.
No selling or sharing of data with anyone, ever.

Clipboard access

The app offers a Paste button that uses Apple's system paste control. It only reads your clipboard at the moment you tap it, and the pasted text is used solely as input for translation.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If the way the app handles data changes — for example, when the app is released on the App Store or if translation requests are routed through our own proxy server in the future — this policy will be updated and the "Last updated" date revised.
